Race have cup dream thwarted

With a near full set of players to select from, Race thought they were in with a chance prior to kick off against a Coed Eva, to reach their second semi-final in three years.

And after fifteen minutes things looked up as Race took the lead following a delightful strike, which was set up by the invention of Martin Bewick. The side seemed to relax and allowed the visitors into the match, creating some chances. Coed Eva finally drew level following a miscue shot from eighteen yards. Race did try and press the visitors back for with their pace, as they forced several corners, following good play by Thorpe and Bewick.

Despite the pressure Coed went ahead with ten minutes of the half remaining via a corner, a glancing header hit a unawares Coed Eva player which deflected it back into the Race goal, a cruel blow to Races' cup hopes. The second half was about the pressure Race applied and failed to capitalise on this, and mid way through the second half Coed Eva all but secured their place in the semi-finals, with a good far post header.

The Race keeper made some telling stops, as well as defenders Goodchild and Williams making last ditch defensive blocks and tackles. With the distraction of the cup over for another season, its back to the bread and butter of the league campaign, with eyes set on improving on recent good league form and to finish in what is a realistic top five finish
