Eight straight defeats leave Crows in danger

Cwmbran Town 0 Newtown 1

CWMBRAN Town are staring relegation full in the face after failing to win in their last eight outings, making this weekend's trip to Caernarfon all the more crucial.

But team boss Sean Wharton says he has nothing but praise for his men and is confident that one good result will turn their season around. "Saturday's result was very disappointing but I can't ask for anything more from the players.

"The only thing we lack sometimes is belief and once we get that one result the bounce will be back in their step and we'll be out of trouble."

Cwmbran's dismal run continued when they went 1-0 down at home to Newtown, thanks to a stunning 20-yard strike from the visitors' Danny Desormeaux.

The result leaves the Crows sitting uncomfortably close to the danger zone, just one place above Caernarfon who could leapfrog Sean Wharton's side if they win the six-pointer on Saturday.

Michael Binning and Simon Heal went closest for Cwmbran in a scrappy game against Newtown, in which Wharton's men rarely looked like scoring.

But positives can be taken from the performances of debutantes Richard Lancaster and young Gareth Wysom.

Wharton said: "Both did extremely well, with Wysom showing great maturity for such a young lad. He's definitely someone I would want in my side in the future."
