Race's luck gets worse in rout

Monmouth Town 5 Race First XI 1

Despite last week's disappointing exit from the County Motors Cup at the quarter final stage, Race was optimistic that it could get the league campaign up and running again with a result at Monmouth.

Race were missing some key players, but welcomed back Mark Drinkwater from his lengthy layoff with a broken ankle.

Monmouth opened the scoring after ten minutes, and within another ten minutes Race were on a damage limitation exercise as the home side raced into a three goal advantage.

Race did create chances of their own and were rewarded for their efforts with a goal by fullback Tim Williams. Williams deserved a goal following his hard work up and down the field. Just before halftime Race lost David Jenkins, following a bad challenge. David could be on the sidelines for a few weeks. Race's day did not get much better when, 3-1 down at the break, they lost defensive stalwart Christian Hodge through injury, having made the substitutes that they had, and were forced to play another defender up front.

With such disruption in the side, they performed heroically to only concede another two after the break.

All credit to Monmouth Town who were an organised and very good footballing side, with no doubt that they will take some beating at home this season.

Race Second XI 1 Llanarth A 4

Following their recent excellent performance against Panteg, the side's confidence was high and were hoping to get another victory under their belt. This fixture was the first of ten home fixtures that the side have left this year.

But they were up against a vastly improved Llanarth side, that were two one up at the break, and scored two further goals to take all three points, during the nsecond half. Races' goal was scored by Nathen Younie.

On a plus side the Second XI welcomed back Paul Hayward and Mathew Williams the latter broke his leg in February of last year, plus it was good to see David Morgan playing in the Green and Black of the Race again. Special thanks go to Kevin Williams who stood in to referee.

The club would like to thank all players that make themselves available every Saturday during such an injury crisis, the worst the club has seen in many season, with no fewer than ten players, needing treatment and suffering long periods out of the game this term.

THIS WEEK'S FIXTURES

FIRST XI: LUCAS CWMBRAN (a)

SECOND XI: GOYTRE FC (h)

Both fixtures kick off at 2:15pm, with players reminded to meet at the club for 12:15pm
