A COMPETITION to name Coleg Gwent's new online radio station has been scooped by a Pontypool student.
Students from all six colleges entered the competition to name the station that gives schools and colleges the opportunity to set up their own online station where they can upload clips of up to 30 minutes.
The clips enable students to share news and views with the nation. Pontypool student Jessica Rausen beat the competition and her entry has crowned the station First4Students FM.
Jessica received £50 and a USB pen after scooping the prize the name the station which can be found on www.radiowaves.co.uk
College staff hope that students will begin adding clips to the website in the near future and that working on the radio station will boost their IT and communications skills.
Helen Burn, who works at the Pontypool Campus as a Key Skills Co-ordinator, said: "Getting involved in the Radio Waves project should help students to improve their self-confidence, build relationships and enhance their ICT skills.
"Quite a lot of work is involved in making, editing and uploading a 30 minute clip and so the students will have real life experience that will help them think independently and improve their problem solving skills."
