Healthy Panteg set sights on points

MANAGER Paul Thomas reports a clean bill of health ahead of this weekend's Gwent County First Division game with Aberbargoed as Panteg look to continue a recent run of good form.

Thomas' side have picked up four points from home games against Blaenavon and Undy in February but had their trip to Abercarn cancelled on Saturday due to an unfit pitch. Now, weather permitting, Panteg entertain third-placed Aberbargoed looking to end the month on a high. Thomas said: "We had been warned during the week that Abercarn's pitch was dodgy and they had a lot of rain. But I hope to have everyone available for this weekend and we can continue to push up the league."

Meanwhile, Panteg's second string were well-beaten 5-1 by Goytre in the Gwent Central League with Nick Gwilliam bagging the only goal for Panteg in the opening half-hour.

The youth squad lost their cup quarter-final 2-1 to New Tredegar, courtesy of a 85th minute overhead winner. Thomas added: "The boys were confident going into the game but it hasn't worked out. But most of them will still be eligible next season so they'll be back for another go."
