School pitches in for little Jade

AN ABERSYCHAN pupil was spurred into action when she heard of a three-year-old girl's battle with cancer - and she's got her classmates and teachers to pitch in.

Chloe Millett, 12, from Abersychan Comprehensive vowed to do something positive for young Jade Morgan, inset, whose leg was amputated when doctors discovered a tumour.

Chloe heard about the youngster's battle while she was at a singing lesson at the Brigette Thomas School of Music, where Jade's mum Zoe Clark also takes lessons.

But not one to sit back just thanking her lucky stars, Chloe asked the headteacher of her school and all the pupils to get involved in raising money for little Jade.

Last Friday a 'Mufti' day she organized raised over £650.

"My singing teacher told me about Jade and we did a show for her. I haven't met her yet but I would like to meet her when I can. It made me feel sorry for her and for her mum (Zoe) because it's a really hard time for her, seeing her little girl go through such an ordeal."

Chloe enlisted the help of friend Aimee Jones, also 12, to visit classrooms and explain to other pupils how the money would benefit Jade.

Each pupil paid £1 in exchange for wearing their own clothes for the day and many decided to give over any spare change to the appeal.

Chloe said: "We want something really special. We thought it would be really nice if we could raise enough money to send Jade and her mum on the trip of a lifetime."

Proud teacher Benita Kelly, Head of English said: "This school is a very caring school not only for our pupils but it teaches the pupils to care for the wider community as a whole."
