East Wales Championships 2006
Charlie Rogers wrote his name into the record books at the recent East Wales Championships, held at the new swimming pool in Newport. He took 13 seconds off the boys 15 years 200m backstroke event, winning gold in a new personal best time. He completed the backstroke double, winning the 100m event, and then added a third gold, winning the 200m individual medley. He took silver in the 100m butterfly, fourth in the 200m freestyle, and fifth in both the 100m & 400m freestyle. Altogether Charlie swam four new personal best times in a very successful event.
David Langley also created a new personal best in the 100m freestyle event, and was thrilled to make his first final, finishing fourth.
Joeley Braddon won silver in the 11 years 100m breaststroke, a feat matched by Lizzie Grant in the 100m backstroke. Bethan Dattani won bronze in the 14 years 100m backstroke, again in a new personal best time. Mercedes White competing in the 12 years age group, came 5th in the 100m breaststroke, and 6th in the 200m freestyle. 13-year-old Alys Evans also came 6th in both the 200m freestyle and 100m breaststroke.
The relays brought more medals for the girls; in the 11 years age group, Lizzie Grant, Ffion Parry, Joeley Braddon and Megan Evans came fourth in the medley relay, and in the freestyle event, Chloe Roche replaced Ffion, the team finishing fifth. The 14-15 years group of Charlotte Ferrari, Bethan Dattani, Lily and Meggy Butler won silver in the medley race.
