Pooler 'have to win games'

POOLER coaches David Gray and Matthew Keho took advantage of the game with league-leaders Neath being postponed on Saturday to go on a scouting mission at rivals Glamorgan Wanderers.

Both Welsh Premier sides are struggling at the wrong end of the table, but Wanderers' 22-10 win over Swansea on Saturday lifted them clear above Pooler ahead of the team's head-to-head next week. And Gray, having witnessed Wanderers' win from the sidelines, knows they will be no easy side to turn over when Pooler travel to face them next week.

He said: "They're a dogged side and we've got to go down there not thinking it's going to be an easy game."

The Neath clash was called off due to a frozen pitch at around 10am on Saturday, before the league leaders had set off for Pontypool Park. David Gray confirmed that the game had been under threat throughout the week after seeing the state of the pitch at training.

Wins for Maestag, Wanderers and Carmarthen saw all three leapfrogging Pontypool at the weekend - with Gray's men now hovering perilously close again to the third-bottom spot, which could see them playing-off with runaway Division One leaders Bonymaen for Premier status.

But Gray added: "We've still got to play Glamorgan Wanderers and are targeting the next seven games individually. We've got to win those games - it's as simple as that."

After travelling to Wanderers on Friday March 17, Pooler host Bedwas in another six-pointer the following week.

He added: "Our players had a rest on Saturday and won't be training Tuesday (last night) as we've no game this weekend. But then its all systems go for the run in at the end of the season. It's a big ask for our small squad - but its what we're here for."
