Saturday's league programme was divided into Division One Cup Quarter Finals and Division Two league matches. All pitches were dry, but the overhead conditions were very cold with a biting wind.
In the A Jones & Co Usk Ltd Quarter Finals of the Langdon cup there were wins for Goytre who beat Panteg 4-1, Tranch Utd who beat neighbours Cwmffrwdoer 1-0 and Govilon who beat visitors Pontypool Town 6-2.
Goytre led Panteg 2-1 at half time before going on to record their 4-1 win. Goytre's hero was Mike Dixon who hit a hat-trick and Adam Roberts chipped in with one. Sam Gifford scored the Panteg goal.
Shaun Williams has scored plenty of goals this season for Tranch Utd but none more important than his 85th minute goal that knocked out Cwmffrwdoer. The goal was set up by Kieron Green who played a through ball up the middle and Williams coolly placed the ball into the back corner of the Cwmffrwdoer net.
Butch Morgan was again very pleased with the effort by his Govilon side to know out Pontypool Town 6-2. Govilon established a 3-0 half time lead. Goal scorers for Govilon were Dean Morgan (2) one from the penalty spot, Jamie Willkins (2) and James Powell (2). Goal scorers for Pontypool Town were Jason Stokes and Jody Thomas.
One Quarter Final game was played in the P&P Pest Control open cup. Llanarth played a local derby match at home to Usk Town. The sides were level 1-1 at half time and at the end of 90 minutes. Colin Morgan fired Llanarth into a 1-0 lead with a shot on the half hour. Usk Town levelled in the 42nd minute via a Llanarth own goal by Matthew Small. No goals in the second half and Usk Town won the match five minutes into the second period of extra time with a spectacular goal by Steve Wade from 25 yards.
Both top teams were in action in Division Two. Leaders Prescoed played New Inn in Division Two's match of the day. The result went Prescoed's way with a 6-1 win. Prescoed led 3-0 at half time. Goals for Prescoed came from an Anthony Jones hat-trick, Jay Roberts got two and Grant Watkins scored with a shot across the New Inn goal that the strong wind helped into the net, "They all count". John Radcliffe scored the goal for New inn. MOM Prescoed: Ian Williams. MOM New Inn: Micky Stewart. Prescoed keep the number one position, four points clear of second placed Pandy.
Pandy keep second position following a narrow 3-2 win on Albion Road over Pontypool Town B. The sides were level 2-2 at half time. Goal scorers for Pandy were Steven Wedlock, Chris Morgan and Kirk Morgan. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B were Justin Wells and Wayne Jobbins. MOM Pontypool Town B: Kevin Rogers. MOM Pandy: Steven Wedlock.
Crickhowell took maximum points from their home 1-0 win over Abergavenny Thursdays. The all important goal was scored with a lob in the 60th minute by prolific goal scorer Craig Bennett. MOM Crickhowell: Jonathan O'Donovan. MOM Abergavenny Thursdays: David Lambert. Fairfield Utd beat newcomers Llanfoist 5-1 after establishing a 4-0 half time lead. Goal scorers for Fairfield Utd were Alex Harper (2), Marcus Williams, Daley Whitcombe and Mark Jones. The goal for Llanfoist was scored by Gareth Williams. MOM Llanfoist: Scott Baugh. MOM Fairfield Utd: Alex Harper.
Stand-in referee Mr Phil Norris had a very good game. The match between Mardy B and Gilwern B was postponed. Clydach Wasps B had a 3-0 home win over Usk Town B. Nathan Wall scored a goal in the 30th minute which was enough to give the Wasps a 1-0 half time lead.
Ten minutes into the second half Phil Odowa made it 2-0 the Clydach B and Alaistar Paton made the game and the point safe Clydach Wasps B when he scored in the 75th minute. MOM Clydach Wasps B: Nathan Wall. MOM Usk Town B: Ben Jones.
The P&P Pest Control Open Cup Quarter Final match between Blaenavon Blues and Mardy A will be rescheduled in April.
