New Inn restore pride

Gwent County Division 3

New Inn 1 Crickhowell 1

New Inn restored some pride with this result after last week's humiliating defeat to struggling Crusaders. Crickhowell's form has improved since Christmas, picking up some impressive results and they showed their intent with a good start to the game.

New Inn did eventually get to grips with the match, Andrew Evans had a speculative effort fly inches over the bar. Good spells of possession saw New Inn playing good passing football and forcing the visitors to concede many corners.

A goal mouth scramble soon followed, the 'keeper pulling off a string of good saves to deny Jeff Tozer and Nathan Blackwell.

Crickhowell managed to survive the onslaught but even though they had much of the ball, they failed to test New Inn's Alex Balmer once in the first half. On the hour New Inn looked for more creativity in midfield, Mike Davidge coming on to cause problems down the left wing.

Shortly after, Crickhowell had their first real effort of the game, a shot deflecting off Daniel Westcott to give Balmer no chance. New Inn rallied and were level ten minutes later, a short corner falling to Davidge who curled it into the top corner from the edge of the area.

New Inn had the belief they could go on to win the game and thought they pulled it off when Lee Whaddon found the back of the net with the last kick of the game. Only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

An improved performance from New Inn in a game they should have won, they face a tough game away to Fairfield next week looking for a long overdue win.
