OVER 60 local residents attended a meeting of Torfaen Council's planning committee to show their opposition to plans to build a residential development in Henylls Village, Cwmbran.
The council was due to consider an application from Persimmon Homes Ltd seeking permission to build 17 residential flats, a shop and community hall last week, but decided to defer the matter until March 30.
The meeting will take place at County Hall, a larger venue which can accommodate more members of the public.
Angela Stafford, one of the objectors who attended the meeting said: "Each week more and more people are coming forward to say they weren't aware of the application, a lot of people didn't have the opportunity to write with their objections to the proposal because of this."
"We are hoping people who object to the scheme will turn up to the meeting to show the strength of feeling against this application."
On March 8 the Free Press reported how local objectors had contacted the council and presented the reasons for their opposition.
These included: that the development would not be in keeping with the area, the principle of introducing such dense residential and shopping units within a limited space may result in increased noise and anti-social behaviour and would lead to increased traffic around the site, which is situated opposite a children's park.
Mrs Stafford added: "No one wants that kind of dense housing on their doorsteps and if we have too, we want a say in the matter."
