On a cold and windy day at Races' Pontypool College ground, Race were looking to build on last week's excellent 5-0 win over Abertillery.
They started brightly and exerted pressure on the Tranch back three as with the game between the sides earlier in the season, Tranch tried to impose rough tactics on the Race players, but this time Race learned their lesson, and just played football and went ahead, via the shortest man on the field, Shaun Berry as he out-jumped the Tranch defence to find the net.
Race doubled their lead, through ex-Tranch forward Robert Tovey, as he coolly slotted past the advancing keeper. Despite Tranch creating some chances, they were found guilty of missing a few excellent ones. The home side knew they would have to be on their toes in the second half, as they were going into a strong wind.
Tranch relied on the long ball, and the long throw of Paul Price, via this tactic Tranch pulled one back. Then Race brought on Russell Williams, who with his first touch, scored his first and Races' third.
With 20 minutes left Tranch didn't lie down but hit back with ten minutes remaining, via a header following the away sides favoured tactic, the long throw. But Race weren't to be denied their well-earned victory, and put at ease any relegation worries they had.
