FOR some, the thought of hurling yourself out of an aeroplane, 13 thousand feet above ground, with little more than a tent strapped to your back is not the most appealing way to travel, but for one Pontypool woman it was a dream come true.
Sarah Kamrowski, of Glascoed Road, New Inn, successfully completed a tandem skydive, to raise money for the St David's Foundation. The 25-year-old forensic examiner was put forward as a volunteer for the hair-raising challenge by her mum, Elaine, who is a member of Cwmbran Ladies Dart League.
Sarah explained: "League members were discussing ways of raising money for St David's Foundation Hospice Care and one of the suggestions was with a sponsored skydive, so mum put my name forward."
Sarah and supporters travelled to Cirencester to conduct her jump with Carl Williams, several times British national skydiving champion. "It was an exhilarating experience. I felt really numb going up in the plane and was just grinning maniacally at everyone. I was one of the first to jump and was grateful that my goggles steamed so I couldn't really see. You fall at around 125 miles an hour and I remember my nose and face felt really cold. It was excellent."
As well as achieving one of her many lifelong ambitions Sarah raised over £500 for the charity, but the adrenaline junkie says she has plenty more challenges to try yet.
"I have a list of things I want to do before I turn 30. I have skydived, swum with dolphins, and been white water rafting. I am now in training and hope to compete in the London Marathon next year and I want to try rally driving as well."
