Flurry of goals in thriller

Cefn Fforest 4 Race First XI 4

The Race's first team's current turnaround in form continued on Saturday, with a battling performance against a good Cefn Fforest outfit in poor conditions.

Against the run of play the home side took the lead, following a slightly deflected shot.

Race applied ample pressure with good supply from Daynar Thorpe and Paul Hayward, but nobody got on the end of the final pass.

On the stroke of half time up stepped Lee Price, who scored with a trademark long range effort, to go in level at the break.

As pitch conditions worsened the second half was a real battle, as both sides tried to play football with the ball often getting stuck in the mud. Cefn Fforest again went ahead, but Race soon hit back through David Jenkins in his first game back after serving a ban.

The home side stunned Race by scoring two quick goals to make it 4-2. Up popped David Jenkins again to give Race hope and make it 4-3. With time ticking away it looked as though Race's hard work was to pass them by and slip to defeat, that was until a ferocious left foot volley from Paul Hayward secured a point for Race with the last kick of the game.
