Assurances on development

THE company behind plans to build a residential development in Henllys Village, Cwmbran, says it wants to allay local people's concerns about the proposals.

Persimmon Homes, the property developer proposing to bring 17 residential flats, a shop and community hall to the village says it is concerned local residents have misunderstood the plans. If Torfaen Council's planning committee approves the application at its meeting on Thursday, March 30, Persimmon Homes intend to sell the site to Cwmbran based developer Pendragon (Design and Build) Ltd.

In a statement Persimmon Homes said both companies believe the scheme will bring much needed 'new build' homes, along with community facilities to the area.

"We believe very strongly in being transparent and providing existing residents with as much information as possible about proposed developments in their local area, which is why we are so eager to ensure residents of Henllys Village are correctly informed," commented Mark Harris, land director for Persimmon Homes Wales.

He said the application seeks permission to build high quality apartments and assured locals social housing will not form part of the development. "There is no requirement for any social housing on the scheme and there is certainly no intention on the part of the developer to provide any social housing. The development would also bring a much needed community hall to the area plus the convenience of a local shop and we believe strongly that it will be of long term benefit to the local community through the creation of both short and longer term job opportunities."

The proposed community hall has been estimated to cost £350,000, to be funded by the developer and community council.

Mr Harris added: "I would like to take this opportunity to assure the residents of Henllys that this is a small, select development of quality homes which, with the added amenities of a shop and community centre, will be of benefit to the whole community."
