PONTYPOOL traders want an urgent meeting with police and Torfaen Council following a spate of burglaries.
Over the past month 14 local businesses have been targeted, including nine market stalls affected by the market robbery on March 3.
Other businesses have suffered attempted break-ins with doors and windows being damaged.
Teri Diston, owner of Buzz tattoo and piercing shop, in Crane Street, said the situation is ridiculous: "The shop was broken into twice in one week. The first time someone got into the shed out the back, a few days later they managed to remove the panel of bars from the window and got into the store. We lost our tattooing and body piercing equipment and thousands of pounds worth of stock.
"We have since reinforced the windows, but it's terrible and we are not the only one's who have been targeted."
Split Endz hairdressers, in Castle Mews, was another victim and thieves made off with hair products.
Wyman Opticians, Osbourne Road, also suffered two break-in attempts. The second time, intruders smashed a glass door panel and stole two charity boxes and £20 from the till.
Mandy Loader, manageress of CJ's Fish Bar, another business affected said: "We had an attempted break-in and they took the handle off the front door, they have also tried kicking the back door in. We need to see something is being done and people are being held responsible."
Fellow trader Andrea Hathaway, owner of Jack in the Box, in Crane Street, explained she has called for a meeting between traders, police and the council: "We need the co-operation of the police, council, traders and members of the public to address the problem."
A spokesman for Torfaen Council said: "We are speaking with the police about arranging a meeting with them and traders to discuss the issues."
A Gwent Police spokesman said: "Inquiries are being carried out into all reported crimes. We would welcome a meeting with local business people to discuss concerns and give practical solutions, which could include increased patrols on foot and in cars. If there are unreported incidents we would urge people to call us on 01633 838111."
