Look for clues to heritage

The people of Torfaen will be given the chance to become "history detectives" in April when they will be encouraged to delve into the county's rich industrial past.

Local communities can improve their own leisure and learning facilities and create employment opportunities through claiming ownership of the county's thriving industrial past, according to HERIAN (Heritage in Action), a partnership of councils, voluntary groups and public organisations.

HERIAN is preparing to arm people with the necessary expertise to explore and celebrate their own past at a workshop taking place at Tredegar House on Tuesday, April 25.

Working with Groundwork Trust and The Community First support network, HERIAN has produced an innovative and user-friendly "toolkit" to help residents discover and celebrate the places and people that shaped Torfaen during the industrial revolution.

The workshop, which will take place between 10am and 4pm, will introduce people to the toolkit and how to use it.

Full details of the seminar will be available at www.gka.org.uk/seminar and can also be obtained by emailing seminar@gka.org.uk
