Panteg start well but have to settle for draw

PANTEG came away with a creditable draw from their game with Clydach Wasps on Saturday, writes Andy Downie.

The home side got off to a flyer thanks to a wonderful finish from Lee Morris after 20 minutes. Morris was put clean through by Ben Gifford and, as the Wasps' keeper advanced, Morris lobbed the ball over him and into the back of the net.

Panteg were then dealt a sucker punch as a Wasp was left free to head home from a corner.

Still level going into the second half, Panteg enjoyed a final 20 minutes against only 10 men after the Wasps had a man sent off.

But, even with a man advantage, Panteg just failed to grab the win and the game ended 1-1.

Panteg 2nds lost at home to Pontypool a week last Wednesday, Tony Dronfield scoring their goal in a game they actually led 1-0. However, a big game during last week saw the 2nds run out 3-0 winners against rivals West Pontnewydd, Mark Taylor (2) and Lee Morris scoring the goals.

The week before (Saturday, April 8), Panteg boss Thomas was delighted to see his side return to winning ways with a convincing 3-1 win over Newport Corries.

Paul Morgan had put Panteg into the lead, with Anthony Roynan making it two midway through the second half.

The visitors pulled one back with their only meaningful shot of the half, before Wilkins wrapped up the points with five minutes.
