Race unable to gain momentum

Rogerstone AFC 3 Race First XI 2

Following last week's excellent draw away to Llanhilleth, Race were determined to continue their good turn of fortune against Rogerstone.

But a lapse of concentration in the opening ten minutes saw the home side jump into a two-goal advantage.

Prior to this fixture, Race were dealt a blow with the loss of influential striker Robert Tovey, with ligament damage.

Despite falling behind Race did apply pressure but lacked that finishing conviction of previous weeks. Race began strongly in the second half.

They pulled one back through Paul Hayward with a well-taken strike, then two minutes later following a determined run by Daynar Thorpe, who was brought down in the box, with Delme Clarke coolly slotting the ball home from the penalty spot.

Race thought they had earned a point on the road again but fate dealt a cruel blow with five minutes left, when Rogerstone grabbed a third and all three points.

Race Second XI 1 Clydach Wasps 2

After a richly deserved midweek 4-1 win over Blaenavon, Race entertained second-placed Clydach. Race equalised through Martin Bewick after going behind. A point was deserved yet taken away from them with a minute to go, as Clydach scored a goal to snatch all the points.

The Second team have one match remaining on Wednesday, May 3, at home to Usk Town with a win a must to have any hopes of not finishing bottom.
