Setting The Scene

From the grounds of Tynewydd there are exquisite, far-reaching, views out across the countryside. To the rear of the garden and house is a garage and office with a decked area outside, which takes

in the beautiful views. The garden has a variety of mature shrubs, trees, vegetable plots and lawned areas. To the side is a meadow of SSSI full of the most beautiful wildflowers.

Vendors Comments

There is nothing quite like watching the sun set over the Usk Valley on a warm summer's evening or catching a glimpse of the Black Mountains through the morning mist. It was the incredible setting of

Tynewydd that enticed its current owners some 14 years ago. It was such a beautiful location, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - and as soon as we saw it we realised this was where we wanted to live she recalls. Looking out from the house there are panoramic views across the Usk Valley, right over to Raglan Castle in the west and beyond that to the Sugar Loaf Mountain, the Blorenge and all the Black Mountains.

A Taste Of France

Believed to date back in parts to the 1920s, Tynewydd has been extended over the years. The current owners have enhanced the house themselves and brought their own style to it. We moved in 14 years ago and the house had already been extended to create a second reception room - then we extended it further to give us a sitting room, with a master bedroom above and a bathroom next to it, she explains. We also doubled the size of the kitchen and added a garden room. She adds we used to live in France and wanted to replicate the large rooms we had enjoyed so much over there.

A Winter Welcome

Everything was completed to a superior standard, with high quality fixtures and fittings. The spacious entrance hall now features travertine tiles, the drawing room and kitchen have solid oak floorboards and the showers are Matki. The house has a modern country style we have a large inglenook fireplace in the sitting room, with a solid oak beam across the top and a Jotul stove inside. This is something I always wanted and it makes quite a feature.

The drawing room is simply magnificent in the winter, she explains. When flames are roaring in the wood-burner it becomes cosy and welcoming, despite its size. There are also lovely views from here out through the French doors, she adds.

Glorious Colour

There is an easy flow between rooms and plenty of space for entertaining. I love having a kitchen dining room, where you can be preparing food at one end and still talk to people as they sitaround the table

at the other end, she says. The garden room is also wonderful it is full of geraniums and other plants, and in the spring and summer is overflowing with colour. With solid walls on three sides and glass

on the other, as well as in the roof, the garden room remains warm in the colder months. It is nice to be able to sit in there when the weather is not good enough to be outside and in the summer it stays cool enough for the plants to do well.

Morning Views

The large room that the previous owners used as a drawing room has become a family or playroom: We have two boys and this was where they could keep their drum kit, play table tennis and enjoyall

their hobbies. It meant we were able to keep the main part of thehouse clear of all their things. Upstairs, there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms, two of which are en suite. Our room has a beautiful arched window to the side, which looks out over the orchard and makes the room very light, she says. I love to sit up in bed in the morning, looking across to the black mountains watching the birds flying and the weather as it changes.

How To Get There

From Trelleck take the Cwmcarvan turning, stay on this road for two miles until you come to a sharp left hand bend, go around the bend and its the second house on the left right next to a fork in the road.
