ONE of Britain's foremost fiddle players Tom McConville will take to the stage of the Lyceum Folk Club next week.

McConville was born on Tyneside and brought up in a pub on the famous Scotswood Road with clientele drawn from the Irish and Scottish communities. This is where he first experienced traditional singing and fiddle music; the Hornpipes of James Hill amongst his first influences.

50 years on Tom McConville is widely acknowledged as the authority on the music of James Hill and has also produced an album devoted entirely to Hill’s compositions.

Catch Tom live at Lyceum Folk & Acoustic Club, Crindau Constitutional Club, 45 Malpas Road, Newport on June 1. Doors 8pm, start 8.30pm. Tickets £8 available on the door or from Ruth on 07966754366.
