AWARD-winning comedian Jo Caulfield is visiting Monmouth next week, with her new show Better the Devil You Know, inspired by a shocking conversation with an audience member.

“Five years ago, I got married in New York. At a recent gig, I was talking to a woman who’d done the same thing.

She said: ‘Wasn’t it easy? Pay $50, get your licence, three minutes later, you’re done.

The hardest part is when you get back to Britain and you have to fill in all the paperwork and register it here’.

“I felt my blood go cold – I didn’t know we had to do that! Then it hit me like a punch in the stomach – I’m not actually married to my husband!”

The realisation that she is, in fact, a single woman, got Jo thinking: “If you could make all your big life choices again, would you do the same things?”

Although Jo is a regular on many TV and radio panel shows, including Mock the Week and Have I Got News for You, it’s on the live stage where she really shines.

With her razor-sharp observations and her scandalous one-liners, it’s no surprise she was recently nominated as the Best Female Comic in the UK.

And for all the romantics out there, there is a happy ending: “We’re going to renew our wedding vows... but this time, I’m determined to stick to at least three of them.”

Jo Caulfield’s Better The Devil You Know will be at The Savoy Theatre, Monmouth on Friday, November 2.

Tickets are £15 and available from the box office on 01600 772467
