A LLANTARNAM pub has been named as the Best Managed Pub 2012 across the East and West Midlands and Wales region.

The Greenhouse in Newport Road won the title in The Great British Pub Awards, beating off the challenge of numerous pubs across the region.

Independent judges visited all the competing pubs to assess them, with The Greenhouse coming out on top.

The pub is run by Nicola Cantle and Neil Foreman who have been managing the establishment for four years.

Mr Foreman said: "We were trained in Abergavenny in The Lamb and Flag. I was a chef and Nicola was a waitress and this is how we met.

"We trained in management and came to The Greenhouse, so it is great to be recognised."

The Greenhouse will go forward to the Great British Pub Awards final, held at the Hilton Hotel in London's Park Lane on September 13 and hosted by comedian Jason Manford.

It will go head to head with four other regional winners for the UK title Best Managed Pub 2012 and also have the opportunity to compete for the overall title of Great British Pub of the Year. Mr Foreman added: "It's just a wait for the final now. It will be a great night going to London, we can't wait."

Recognised as the Oscars of the pub world, the awards are organised by pub industry magazine, the Publican's Morning Advertiser.

The Publican's Morning Advertiser editor Rob Willock said: "The award recognises the managed pub that has achieved its business aims most successfully in the past year. The Greenhouse has a fantastic offer for its customers and is a worthy winner."
