THE stunning Tewkesbury Park is the perfect hotel to rest and relax and to base yourself for exploring the many delights of the Cotswolds if you feel more adventurous, as Iwan Davies found out on a recent visit...

THE multi-award winning Tewkesbury Park really does have it all. Set in a glorious golf course, you don’t have to be a golfing enthusiast to enjoy the hotel, it’s just a huge added bonus because it offers so much more.

It’s not too difficult to see why Tewkesbury Park has been so highly commended by Condé Nast Johansens, the reference guide for chic hotels, as well as VisitEngland.

For its food, facilities and friendliness, this place is a hole in one in anyone’s league.

In terms of location too, it is US Masters class.

This hotel is on the southern edge of Tewkesbury looking out to the Cotswold Hills in one direction and the Malvern Hills in another.

Tewkesbury is an attractive town with its timbered houses and beautiful 12th-century abbey.

The main hotel is an impressive 18th-century building with more modern additions built when Tewkesbury Park became a golfing venue in recent decades.

There’s a great cocktail bar and a lounge with huge windows to drink in those spectacular vistas.

The hotel facilities are first class. Apart from the 18-hole, 73-par golf course there are two tennis courts, two squash courts, a gym, bike spinning studio and indoor swimming pool. And for those wishing to take it easy after a workout, there’s an outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room.

There is also an upmarket spa which is run in partnership with the Natural Spa Factory in Bath.

Its signature treatments include bespoke facials and seaweed wraps. From beauty therapists to receptionists, the staff are on top of their game.

I was lucky enough to stay with my wife in one of the nine suites in the main building and there are 85 bedrooms in an adjoining wing.

Rooms are cosy rooms with breath-taking views, modern bathrooms and comfortable interiors, including state-of-the-art Hypnos beds covered in fine Egyptian cotton.

Dining here is a real treat with executive chef Anuj Thakur offering exciting seasonal menus full of local flavour.

Highly recommended are the beetroot and gin home cured salmon gravlax to start, the 8oz Herefordshire beef pavé steak and the locally sourced cheese plate to end.

There’s also a decent wine list at prices which won’t break the bank.

Make sure you start the day with a full breakfast because it really is something to savour too.

Try and bag a table on the upper floor which offer the best views.

It’s a family and dog friendly hotel with rooms kitted out with memory foam mattresses for pooches and patio doors that lead straight onto grassy areas.

The Cotswolds are within easy driving distance and we enjoyed a trip to the fabulous Chipping Campden, a gem of a place with its picturesque cottages.

The friendly staff at the hotel were all fantastic too, ensuring a warm welcome and pleasant stay.
