Cardiff Castle hosts a major concert this summer with the Modfather himself, Paul Weller headlining in the city centre on July 24 as live music returns to the heritage site.

Paul Weller is beloved by legions of fans from his days with The Jam, The Style Council, and through his hugely successful solo career over the past 25 years. He will be performing material from his extensive back catalogue at Cardiff Castle in the summer.

The concert is produced by Orchard, Wales’ largest independent music promoter. Orchard director Pablo Janczur said: “Paul Weller is one of the biggest names in British music over the past 35 years, and we are really excited to bring him to this great Cardiff Castle location that has hosted some major concerts over the years. It’ll be a big night in the middle of the summer.”

The Jam remain one of the biggest bands in UK pop history with hit singles like In The City, The Eton Rifles, their first Number 1 single Going Underground, and their last, Beat Surrender. Weller then went on to collaborate with keyboard player Mick Talbot in The Style Council, creating another collection of timeless songs such as My Ever Changing Moods, You're The Best Thing and Shout To The Top.

Since the end of the 1980s, Paul Weller has been a solo artist, enjoying a Mercury Prize nomination for Wild Wood, and a Number 1 album for the million-selling Stanley Road, which spawned hit singles, The Changingman and You Do Something To Me. Further albums over the past three decades have included Heavy Soul, Heliocentric, Illumination, As Is Now, 22 Dreams, and an album of covers, Studio 150, as well as live recordings and career compilations. His 2010 album Wake Up The Nation was nominated for a Mercury Music Prize, and in the same year he was presented with the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement Award. Sonik Kicks was released in 2012 and went to Number 1.

In 2006 Weller received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the BRIT Awards, three years later scooped the BRIT for Best Male Solo Artist, and in 2010 was awarded Godlike Genius status in the NME Awards.

Orchard recently won the Regional Promoter of the Year Award in the UK Live Music Business Awards for their work on some 200 concerts and festivals, including Ponty’s Big Weekend and Brecon Jazz. Last year the company shared the Production Partnership of the Year prize with Conwy Council in the 2013 National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Awards for their Access All Eirias concert in North Wales, which this summer hosts Tom Jones.
