Cheryl released her fourth solo album, ‘Only Human’ earlier this week, a day after hitting number one for the fifth time with her latest single I Don’t Care. ‘Only Human’, the album of which I Don’t Care come from is undeniably pop while managing to challenge convention in its own way. It’s thoughtful, considered, celebratory and hugely uplifting.

Cheryl makes a clear statement in the lyrics of I Don’t care about how happy she is with her life, “You can’t live your life worrying about what other people think or say about you, “she says, “Even if I do hope that people enjoy what I do, I can’t make that the sole focus of my life because that would make you miserable.”

Only Human has a definite R&B theme running through, which has helped Cheryl formulate her own sound from a variety of influences. “It’s the kind of music that I grew up listening to. It’s who I am influenced by and that I enjoy. Obviously I’ve been in Girls Aloud for 10 years and pop has been a big part of my career and my life and it’s important. I wanted to include a little bit of everything: me, pop and hopeful messages which I hope come through.”

Cheryl has also been busy recently as a judge on the current series of The X Factor, a show she hadn’t appeared on for four years “I know what to expect this time around,” she says, “I still always get really nervous and anxious for my people, more than anything else it is an adrenaline filled night on Saturday and Sunday for your act so it’s a bit crazy, I enjoy it more because I know what to expect.”

Cheryl is matter of fact about her role as a judge on the X Factor “It is an extension of what I do,” she says, “It’s still music related even if it’s not me, it’s me helping someone create what I do. It’s helping somebody and giving them to opportunity to have what I have. If you look at One Direction and Cher Lloyd, people like that - Ella Henderson– people who have come from the X-Factor. To be part of someone’s journey like that, it’s just as much fun as doing it yourself.”

With Cheryl’s longevity and expertise in the music business is there any possibility she may consider going into management or running her own record label in the future? “I’m concentrating on the here and now because as we all know, you never know what can change in the future. But, it is something I am interested in, and it is something I would love to look at for the future. But this year and right now, I’m just focusing on what is going on.”

So with the success of the album and gaining her fifth solo number one has Cheryl got any plans to tour? “I hope so,” she responds, “that’s the next thing I need to discuss with management and with my team. Maybe after Christmas when the craziness with X-Factor dies down, then we will get into that. But I hope so yes.”
