Nell Bryden – Bloom
(157 Records)
Bloom is Nell Bryden’s fourth studio album and is a beautiful affair from the moment the opening track In The Morning kicks off. Taking inspiration from her own life the album encompasses every human emotion from the poignant to the triumphant.
The haunting song of lost-love Thought I Was Meant for You has already gained much praise as an air-play hit, and Nell has ensured that the further 12 tracks on the album stand up to an equal quality.
The albums strength is its acoustic intimacy paired with upbeat pop and edgy rock. Dared the World And Won, Feels So Good To Cry and My House are strong variations on Bloom’s rich palette of offerings.
A strong release proving the title matches the content, Nell Bryden’s music is certainly continuing to Bloom.
Jesse and Joy
(EastWest Records)
It would seem there is no better time for Mexican brother and Sister Jesse & Joy to release their UK debut album.
The pairs blend of Americana and Latin-folk has already helped them become an established act in the US for over a decade with a string of Grammy’s and Number One hits to their name.
The album showcases Jesse’s strong musical talent along with Joy’s beautiful vocals on 12 tracks making up this the pairs first dual-language album including the airplay hit Helpless and an English and Mexican version of the song Run (which translates as Corre!).
Anyone who loves roots based music from acts such as The Shires and Ward Thomas will certainly enjoy this fine release.
