A standing ovation greeted the exceptional cast of last night’s performance of ‘The Full monty’ at the New Theatre Cardiff. Headed by TV stalwart Simon Rause (ITV’s The Bill), former soap star Craig Gazey (Coronation Street) and actor Kenny Doughty (Stella). The production is a direct adaptation of the hugely successful low budget British film of the same name.

Written by the original screenwriter of the film Simon Beaufoy, the production successfully captures the spirit of it’s predecessor - and manages to bring new life to what has proven to be a moving comedy classic.

Featuring virtually all of the hit songs from the movie, some fitting updates to the dialogue (including a prominent emphasis on Margaret Thatcher’s impact on the characters lives that was omitted from the original movie) and a first class set, it’s a worthy watch for both those who are familiar with the motion picture and those who’ve yet to discover it’s delights.

Particularly impressive was Rachel Lumber’s portrayal of Jean - Dave’s sex-starved wife, Simon Rause as ballroom dancing Gerald and Craig Gazey as security guard Lomper who effortlessly embraced their roles with stunning results.
