Based on T S Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats this musical gives a fascinating insight into the underworld of the moggy.

This junior company always rises to the challenge and even with Andrew Lloyd Webber's difficult score, their singing raised the rafters of the Victorian theatre.

The whole cast of the Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (AAODS) juniors also managed to perfectly portray the graceful, lithe movements of our feline friends. The standard of past productions has been so high that national awards have been collected.

Miles Harding commanded the stage as Munkustrap, well supported by the other principals Alys Le Moignan (Bombalurina), Luke Williams (Rum Tum Tugger), Molly Brickley Clark (Demeter), Millie Francis (Jellylorum), Louise Morgan (Jennyanydots), Kerrigan Heffernan (Bustopher Jones) and Maddie Robertson whose brilliant dancing and gymnastics enhanced the part of Victoria.

Molly choreographed the show and ironically she had to watch everyone else dance as she underwent major surgery earlier this month and only left hospital 12 days ago. It is a measure of the way the cast works as a team that no-one would have known. Tom Brace Jenkins and Emily James as Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer almost stole the show and there were memorable cameo roles from Brandon Jones as Skimbleshanks and Alex Clarke as Mr Mistoffelees. The strong chorus shone in songs like The Jellicle Ball and undoubtedly one of the highlights was the duet of Bethan Langford as Grizabella and Carys Davies as Jemima singing Memory.

The show runs every night until Saturday.
