Newport Pantomime and Musical Society once again delivered all the key ingredients for a successful panto, with goodies, baddies, men dressed as women, women dressed as men and of course uplifting song and dance routines.

Robinson Crusoe was the society’s 44th annual pantomime, and in the capable hands of producer/director Rose Chilcott, choreographer Vanessa Clarke and musical director Gareth Rawle-|Jones, it proved another winner.

A large, well-rehearsed cast lost no time in endearing themselves to an enthusiastic audience and there were some stand-out performances.

Leon Yemm played Ruby Crusoe, a traditional panto dame, with confidence and panache, his comedy perfectly complemented by the slapstick of Ryan Salter as Wally.

Leading ladies, Lisa Davis as Robinson Crusoe and Lee-Rose Walsh as Polly hit just the right note in the two main pivotal roles, their common-sense and honour juxtaposed alongside no less than two baddies, the excellent Gerry Needs and Lee James as Long John and King Neptune.

A panto is incomplete without an uplifting score and Ria Phillips as Kookee threatened to steal the show with a clever version of Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass.

Family entertainment at its best - you have until Saturday to catch up with it
