Fun, wacky and fantastic are the three words that sum up the New Theatres production of the pantomime Aladdin.

There wasn’t a quiet corner in the audience with shouting, hissing and booing coming from all directions.

Children and adults alike were undoubtedly having a superb time and this can only be laid down to the excellent performance from the cast.

Welsh local celebrity, Ian ‘H’ Watkins as Aladdin and iconic rugby player Gareth Thomas as the genie, captivated the audience where there were many jokes relating to their previous careers.

Comedy was packed into the show with Mike Doyle as ‘Widow Trankey.’ He was born to play his role and his character could definitely never be ignored on stage.

Adding to the humour, Andy Jones as Wishee Washee, was never short of laughs and should also be mentioned.

The Evil Abananzar, played by Sam Kane, was a brilliant baddy, and was always welcomed with persistent boos.

Special touches such as Aladdin riding an elephant and a magic carpet ride were moments that created the wow factor.

A variety of new and old songs were played including two old Steps songs such as ‘Tragedy’ and ‘Stomp’ which many older audience members could enjoy.

Bright costumes, professional dancing, great sets and exaggerated acting, all helped create a magical pantomime.

The show ended with a Twelve Days of Christmas sketch which had everyone in the audience, and on stage, in hysterics.

This is definitely one to watch this Christmas and New Year; the show continues until January 17.
