A MUSICAL based on the legendary Tom Jones in the capital city of Wales was always going to cause a lot of excitement.

While this was an enjoyable night, this is not a show to come along to if you want to hear all the big hits. This show focuses more on Tom Jones’ rise to fame and his long struggle to get there.

As you follow the story, you watch how, married at the early age of just 16, Jones fights to find his path into music from the small town of Pontypridd to London. Linda, played by Elin Phillips, was the perfect supportive loving wife pushing him to never give up.

Kit Orton, in the iconic lead role, had big shoes to fill and he definitely met the expectation of a Tom Jones from the 1960s with his acting and dance moves; the giggles and screams from women in the crowd proved this! He had a high-quality voice and each performance with The Senators band had everyone tapping along. However, whether his vocals matched up to the powerful voice of Tom Jones is debatable.

The show ended with his first big hit It’s Not Unusual and with a hurried mini-concert of a few of his famous songs.

This is a fun show if you would like to learn more about Jones’ life before he became a Welsh star.

The show continues until Saturday.
