THERE was a magical atmosphere in the historic setting of Chepstow Castle on Saturday night when a show packed with sequins, quick costume changes and hit after hit rolled into town.

The Magic of Motown certainly lived up to its name. The packed castle was soon up and dancing to the sounds of Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and the Jackson 5, to name but a few.

It was a quick-tempo show, slickly presented by a troupe of great singers and dancers.

From ballads to dance classics, we heard it through the grapevine, went loco down in Acapulco and danced in the streets.

The music spanned the decades of Motown and the crowd loved every minute of it.

From the opening offering of The Temptations’ Papa Was A Rolling Stone to the encore of The Contours’ Do You Love Me we were treated to a whole host of numbers including Ain’t to Proud to Beg, Needle in a Haystack, All Night Long and Endless Love – there certainly was something for everyone.

The show was part of the annual Castell Roc festival which has acts playing everyday until  August 28.
