A SEVENTEEN-YEAR OLD from New Inn has passed out with the Army following 14 weeks of training.

Ieuan Winstone joined the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) and has now become a craftsman after finishing phase one training at Pirbright Surrey.

The former West Mon pupil will now move on to Bordon in Hampshire, for 30 weeks, to complete his phase two training as an armourer.

Following this he can be posted to work within a regiment using his skills to maintain and repair small arms and weapons systems.

He is the first in his family to join the Army, and was inspired to join from being a member of both the Scouts and Army cadets.

His dad, Andrew, said: “He just loves it and can’t wait to get back into training.”
