AN operation to tackle crime in Pontypool has been successful, with 30 people arrested in a two-month period.

During November and December, Pontypool officers focused on reducing crime such as burglary, thefts from vehicles and anti-social behaviour in Pontypool, especially in Abersychan, Pontnewynydd and Snatchwood, where reports of burglary and vehicle crime have been highest.

The team of officers, along with the Roads Policing Unit, have been patrolling all areas in Pontypool to identify offenders and anyone acting suspiciously, This resulted in 30 arrests.

Officers have also been working with partner agencies to work with young people involved in anti-social behaviour and offenders living in social housing.

Housing officers also spoke to their residents about keeping their homes secure.

Pontypool Neighbourhood Team have been raising awareness of home and vehicle security during police surgeries and encouraging residents to make sure their homes and vehicles are locked at night and valuables hidden from view.

Officers also gave out leaflets to local residents to improve their knowledge of how to keep their homes and vehicles secure.

Neighbourhood Inspector for Pontypool Micah Hassell said: “This operation has had an overwhelming success.

Officers have targeted our main offenders who are responsible for committing high levels of crime within the Torfaen area.

“I am committed to making even further reductions within the Pontypool area and will ensure our staff continue with this dedicated operation throughout the forthcoming months.”
