TWO friends are walking from Big Pit to Cardiff City Stadium to raise money for a children’s charity.

Childhood friends Rhys Ballam, 23, and Craig Fellows, 22, will undertake the 32-mile trek to raise money for The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Mr Ballam, from Cwmbran, said: “Craig suggested doing something for charity and came up with the walk idea from his home in Blaenavon to Cardiff.

“I thought it was a joke at first but then he went ahead and arranged it. I’m looking forward to raising money for charity.”

The pair will be starting their walk next Tuesday from Big Pit in Blaenavon at 8am, and hope to arrive in Cardiff in time to watch Cardiff City play Brighton in a league match at the Cardiff City Stadium at 7.45pm.

Mr Ballam said that he is an active person but hasn’t done any preparation for the walk, which could take nine and a half hours.

He hopes to “grin and bear any pain” that develops and will have a first-aid kit to deal with any blisters that could develop.

He said: “The game will be the inspiration to keep on walking as the tickets will be in my pocket. ”

Mr Ballam’s employer, Admiral, will match the funding that he raises.
