A COLOURFUL sensory garden designed for young people opened in Usk last week.
The Sparkle Garden, which lies within the grounds of the town’s performing arts centre on Maryport Street, was designed particularly those with learning difficulties.
Created by Rebecca Parkes from Monmouthshire council’s youth service and colleagues from Gilwern’s Get Up and Grow project, the opening took place exactly one year after the unveiling of the Therapy Den, the centre’s sensory room.
The garden was funded with help from the Roger Edwards Educational trust and Monmouthshire council.
Cllr Liz Hacket Pain, cabinet member for children and young people said: “This is an excellent facility that shows off all the hard work on this project resulting in a fabulous success.”
Council’s chairman, Cllr Maureen Powell, added: “What a wonderful scheme that all the young people can enjoy for play or chilling.
“I want to thank all those who have contributed such great effort to achieve this beautiful and fascinating garden.”
