IT WAS a constant reminder of a horrific fire that killed three generations of the same family.

But now the end-terrace house in Cwmbran which was once called home by the tragic Buckley family has finally been demolished Kim Buckley, 46, her daughter, Kayleigh, 17, and Kayleigh’s six-month-old baby, Kimberley, all died when fire ripped through their home on September 18 last year.

Contractors have now demolished 15 Tillsland, Coed Eva, after working on the site for about three weeks.

Bron Afon Housing Association sent letters out to residents at the beginning of February informing them that the property would be torn down.

Security guards have been in attendance at the site 24 hours a day during the demolition.

A fundraising event was held in memory of the Buckley family on Saturday at Coed Eva and Hollybush community hall and has raised more than £700 for the Royal Gwent Hospital’s Special Care Baby Unit, with money still being collected.

Kim Buckley’s mother, Gwynn Swain, organised the community event to celebrate her family’s lives and scheduled it for the weekend closest to her daughter’s birthday – February 19.

Coed Eva ward councillor Fiona Cross said: “We were blown away by how much money was raised and there is money still coming in.

“I know Gwynn is extremely grateful to everyone who got involved.

“It was an incredible event, which made the whole community come together.

“There was so much love in the room.

“People are never going to get over the loss but this goes some way to help with the healing process.

“I would like to say a huge thank-you to all the volunteers and everyone who donated their time and even prizes for the raffle – which was the biggest raffle I have ever seen.

“I was proud to be part of an event where the community took charge, and I think everyone felt that way.

“Hopefully now the house has come down people will be able to start to move forward and find some closure.

“The family will never be forgotten, but remembered by the way they enriched the lives of others.”

Around 800 people gathered at St Gabriel’s Church, Cwmbran, for the funeral of the family on October 25 last year.
