Call for AMs oath to be to voters – not Queen
THE oath of allegiance taken by Assembly Members, should pledge loyalty to the Welsh people not the Queen, the Silk Commission has been told.
In evidence to the Silk Commission, which could recommend a constitutional shake-up, Republic Wales said elected AMs should give allegiance to voters not to the royal family.
The group has also recommended removing the obligation on AMs to seek permission from members of the royal family when debating possible legislation about their role.
The group also says the Freedom of Information Act should be amended allowing lobbying by the Prince of Wales on Assembly business to be made transparent and scrutinised by the public.
Currently, swearing an oath of allegiance to the monarch is mandatory for all Assembly Members.
Republic Wales wants the Silk Commission to ensure the legislative process in Wales is free from undemocratic influence by the royals.

Good, why should anyone have to swear an oath of allegiance to Madge? Why should the Prince of Wales, someone who is unelected, be allowed to interfere in Welsh politics without the electorate knowing about it?

From what we know of his tax arrangements that he has tried to keep secret there is a lot of personal gain there. Keep tipping your hat to Madge but I will argue for democracy and I think you will find there are rather a lot of people who care who the oath is made too.

And if Charles was interested in personal gain why would he hand over £100m a year to the Princes Trust? (And gain anything from Wakes? Do me a favour). None of the Royal family have yet been suspected of anything other than a speeding offence. Yet the list of elected corrupt criminal lying scumbags runs to volumes.

They don't care what the voters think anyway, once they're in power.
