‘House sales at all-time high in Wales’ - survey

HOUSE sales are at an all-time high in Wales, a 2013 survey reveals.

RICS, responsible for professional standards in land, property and construction, held a February 2013 UK Housing Market Survey which found that the number of houses sold in Wales has remained at a three-and-a-half-year high, the highest level since August 2009, for the second consecutive month.

The survey states that chartered surveyors are now selling an average of 17 homes in the three months to February, when the market stability translated into an uplift in sales.

Welsh surveyors are optimistic that this trend will continue, as 31 per cent more respondents suggest that more sales will continue to be made in the coming three months.

The increase in mortgage finance availability from the government’s Funding for Lending scheme may be slowly encouraging buyers to test the market.

RICS residential spokesman for Wales, David Jones, of Rhyl estate agents Jones and Redfearn, said: “The market is certainly showing signs of improvement but we’re not into a full recovery just yet.

“My take on circumstances is that sellers are being realistic over offers and buyers persistent in getting finance.”
