Apology to Gwent patients over waits

GWENT health bosses have apologised to patients who have waited long periods for emergency treatment or hospital admission, following an “exceptionally busy” week for its A&E units.

Health boards across Wales have reported very high demand in A&E during the past fewdays, with units at the Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall Hospitals among them.

More beds have been opened and more staff taken on to cope with rising demand, with extra investment being put into emergency departments.

An Aneurin Bevan Health Board spokesman said: “Our staff are working extremely hard to ensure those patients in most need are prioritised .

“The health board frequently experiences these surges in demand and wishes to offer its sincere apologies for any delay patients might have experienced during this exceptionally busy period.”

Patients are being urged to consider attending a minor injuries unit, their GP, or a pharmacist. NHS Direct 0845 46 47.
