DIVERSE: Musicians and singers will perform, including the renowned Africa Entsha DIVERSE: Musicians and singers will perform, including the renowned Africa Entsha

IT STARTED off two years ago as a small school event, but this year the Chepstow School Food and Culture Festival promises to be a major event for the whole town.

While the school is hosting and organising the June 30 festival, which will raise money for two local charities, the appeal is very definitely broad enough for this to be considered a Chepstow-wide event.

Already the festival has attracted dozens of businesses to host trade stands and 72 stalls will feature everything from pickles, pies and pasties to woodfired pizza, exotic meats, wines, liqueurs and ciders.

There will be a cookery theatre organised by Harts Barn Cookery School and various chefs will be offering demonstrations.

But what makes this food festival stand out from others is that it is also a festival of culture.

Event organisers have secured a diverse range ofmusicians and singers to perform on the day.

They range from Chepstow School’s own talented performers to the renowned Africa Entsha, award winners from the Edinburgh Festival.

Wyedean Gospel Choir will perform as will Chepstow Community Big Band, Irish folk band The Hairpin Bend and Spellbound.

Meanwhile, on the school fields there will be an army assault course, plenty of room for picnics, a mini paintball range and a bouncy castle.

Chepstow Bookshop is getting on board and authors Richard Pitman, Matt Johnson and Katy Krump will be holding talks, workshops and book signings.

All in all a fantastic family day out with no entrance fee and, best of all, all proceeds going to two local charities – Care for Casualties (The regimental charity of the Beachley-based Rifles) and Chepstow Foodbank.

Work is under way to attract as many sponsors as possible to ensure that as much money as possible is raised.
