ABERTILLERY Primary School received such an excellent report from Estyn inspectors that their work will be shared with other schools in Wales.

The school achieved three excellent grades and it has also been asked by Estyn to write reports to be used as best practice at other schools. No grades were less than good.

The school caters for 393 pupils between three and 11 years of age, which includes the part-time nursery, and there are 15 classes in total The inspector’s report found standards of achievement are good, standards of behaviour are excellent, learning experiences are varied and engage nearly all learners successfully, the quality of teaching is good and often excellent, and standards of wellbeing are excellent.

The report also stated there was an "excellent ethos" at the school supporting improvements in learning and teaching.

Headteacher Dean Taylor, said: "I am thrilled with the report. The whole school community works hard to ensure our children have the very best teaching and learning experiences.

"This is a real community school and pupils, staff, governors and parents should all be congratulated. We will ensure that we continue to build on this so that standards are maintained and improved further."

The report also said: "A stimulating and diverse range of learning experiences meets all pupils’ needs and interests well. Almost without exception, pupils find learning fun and their lessons interesting."

Nichola Hayward, chairwoman of the governors, said: "The governing body of Abertillery Primary School is extremely proud of the staff and the pupils, whose hard work and dedication is reflected in this outstanding inspection report. Abertillery Primary School is a school for the community to be proud of."
