A TEN-YEAR-OLD girl is to be invited to have her picture taken with a plaque which celebrated her grandfather reopening Chepstow’s town arch in 1986.

Jasmine Dorel, of Shirenewton, wrote to Chepstow Town Council asking if the plaque could be moved from its current position of a window in the Gatehouse, so more people could see it.

Her grandfather is Ted Dorel MBE, a town and county councillor for 30 years representing St Kingsmark ward, as well as being elected mayor.

The Shirenewton Primary School pupil asked the council to consider updating the plaque to include the MBE presented to Mr Dorel in 2009 for services to local government and the community of Monmouthshire.

Councillors discussed the request and the meeting heard it had been moved to its current position as somebody tried to steal it.

They decided the plaque could be lit with a spotlight, given a clean and have the details of Mr Dorel’s MBE added in.

Once the work is done, Miss Dorel will be invited to have her picture taken with it.
