A MAN whose death is at the centre of murder investigation died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, a court heard today.
Barry Thomas, 45, died at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital on June 4, two days after he was allegedly assaulted in Methuen Road, Maindee, Newport.
Calvin Wall, 46, of Walsall Street, Newport, and Shaun Walker, 19, of Newman Close, Newport, are charged with his murder.
At a preliminary hearing at Cardiff Crown Court today, Michael Jones, prosecuting, said an initial post mortem examination found Mr Thomas' death was caused by basal subarachnoid haemorrhage.
This is consistent with blunt force trauma to the head, he said, but a more full report was still being prepared.
The matter was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing on August 30.
Walker and Wall, who was not present at the hearing but was dealt with in his absence, were remanded in custody.
