A TRAGIC couple who were originally from Pontypool fell to their deaths from the bedroom window of their Dorset home, a coroner has heard.

Glenys and Roy Smith, who were aged 92 and 89-years-old, were found in the garden of their home at Crag Head, Manor Road in Bournemouth, just after 8.30am on December 3.

The grim discovery was made by an assistant caretaker, and it is thought the couple fell around 30 feet to their deaths.

Neighbours said the couple had been afraid of going into a care home.

District coroner Sheriff Payne heard that Mr and Mrs Smith, who moved from Pontypool to Bournemouth several years ago, died of multiple traumatic injuries, pending the results of a toxicology report.

The body of Mrs Smith was identified by son Michael, while Mr Smith was identified by their second son Richard on Thursday.

A note was found in their home, suggesting they fell to their deaths at 11pm on the night before their bodies were discovered.

An interim date for the full inquest has been set for February 13 next year.
