YOUNGSTERS from New Inn Primary School have been given the chance to name one of Melin Homes’ new housing developments, at The Walk, in New Inn.
The school decided upon the name Maes y Dderwen, which means Oakfields in Welsh.
As a thank you, representatives from Melin visited the children and made a donation towards new equipment for their playground. Development assistant, Elizabeth Bennett, presented the cheque to the school, which was collected by pupil Lauren Grindlay, chair of their Eco Committee.
The new homes back onto the school’s playing fields, so some of the pupils from the Eco Committee were recently given the chance to look around the site. The children thought the new houses were “lush” and were particularly impressed with the environmentally friendly features including the PV solar panels and green heating systems.
Melin Homes’ Chief Executive, Mark Gardner said: “we’re really pleased that the next generation are interested in caring for the environment within their community, and we’re grateful for the school’s contribution to this development.”
