LITTLE Calon Gibbs, of Chepstow, was among the lucky 250 people to meet Welsh rugby star Sam Warburton in Chepstow on Wednesday.

The flanker, who led Wales to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2011 and to a triumphant Grand Slam in the Six Nations in 2012, visited the town’s Drill Hall to talk about how he led the Lions to victory in Australia.

Following an interview on stage by television presenter Jane Harvey, Mr Warburton spent more than an hour and a half signing copies of his book, Lions Triumphant: The Captain’s Story.

Matt Taylor, the owner of Chepstow Bookshop who organised the visit, said the night was a sell-out.

“Sam was a very warm, engaging guy who took the time to talk to everyone in the very long queue after the talk: signing alone took more than an hour and a half.

“It was a great way to end a year of events for us which included David Suchet, Chris Hadfield, Kate Humble and Rick Stein. We are looking forward to a busy week and then will start planning our 2014 programme.”

I took my dad as a early christmas present and have to say Sam is one of the nicest men i've ever met! He really took the time to talk to you and was up and down from his chair for pictures. Was such a great experience and he gave the impression he wasn't trying to hide anything while talking, he said about his emotions and experiences, it was a lovely thing to witness.
