TWO keen walkers from Chepstow have launched a new business to combat the agonies of blistered feet.
Maureen Langston and Julia Sargent's product 'hapihike' is a natural sheep's wool product infused with peppermint oil which helps to stop the effect of rubbing boots, cushion hot spots and ease sore feet.
They came up with the idea to use natural sheep's wool within walking shoes, after an eight day trek in the Scottish Highlands.
Maureen spoke to the Free Press about how the idea for 'hapihike' was formulated.
She said: "I had only just made a new year's resolution to get fit so I decided to join my sister on a walk on the West Highland Way in Scotland.
"By the end of day three, one of our group had such sore feet she was unable to continue so she travelled with our luggage to Rowardennan.
"Several other members of our party had hotspots on their feet, harbingers of the dreaded blisters. Bathing feet in the icy waters of the Loch gave us some temporary relief.
"During this time I thought I had found an alternative remedy for sore feet with sheep's wool. A business idea was developing in the back of my mind and the product was being road tested.
"It made a massive difference, as walking became easier and it put a spring back in my steps."
When wrapped around the toes or heels and under the feet, the wool from 'hapihike' compacts to form a natural protective cushion around the foot, while the peppermint oil has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
'hapihike' is on the market for £4.99 and you can find out more from www.hapihike.co.uk
