COULD Torfaen be the next Gwent town to see a host of chart-topping stars take to the stage as part of an alcohol-free musical festival?

It is thought the Breakin’ Out Festival could come to the area after a staff member at Randomz, a sustainable social enterprise project team based at Cwmbran Centre for Young People, tweeted that initial talks were under way.

Leigh Rowland said: “Great developments with the @BreakinOutFest the team are working hard to bring this dry festival to Torfaen in 2014, #randomz”

Randomz confirmed the festival was a possibility but said no further details, such as a date or funding, were available.

“Talks are ongoing over funding,” said a spokesman for Randomz.

Rapper Tinchy Stryder headlined the festival last held in September 2013 at Bailey Park in Abergavenny.

X Factor finalist Amelia Lilly, the Loveable Rogues and Newport rappers Goldie Lookin’ Chain also performed.

Activities and entertainment included a sports zone, stalls, funfair, circus skills taught by NoFitState Circus, bungee run and DJs located in the “creative village”.

Twist and Pulse, the London-based street dance duo who made it to the final of Britain’s Got Talent in 2010, also handed out some dance tips to the 2,000-strong crowd.

Sharon Lewis set up the festival to help people battling addiction.

Ms Lewis, herself a recovered drug and alcohol addict, previously said the drink ban was a vital part of the festival’s message.

She also said the no alcohol policy showed “young people can have a great time without drinking”.

Jon Harries, a 24-year-old shop assistant from Abergavenny, attended the event last year. He said at the time: “It’s such a friendly atmosphere here.

“That might be down to the lack of alcohol involved, or the weather.

“But I’ll certainly be coming here again next year. There’s something for everyone.”

The festival was supported by the Arts Council for Wales and Monmouthshire County Council.
